Men can be ancient masters but not women, with the exception of Oume and Outane Gouketsuji from Power Instinct. But even then women in their physical prime are rare for a fighting game and even then the designers can make the men appear slightly older but the women ageless.NoeVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04779247007364271106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5257249091847404717.post-51540025791429987832016-01-15T22:19:52.559-08:002016-01-15T22:19:52.559-08:00Inspired by the female wrestling and Hollywood act...Inspired by the female wrestling and Hollywood actresses aging out, one thing I've noticed for fighting games, is that there aren't many 30-40-50 something female characters. (I will rank unaging/Immortal characters by their apparent age, so Ivy, Morrigan, and so on don't count.)

MKX Sonya Blade is the one that I can think of that clearly counts, and Sindel maybe kinda counts if you squint.

This bums me out, particularly since there are some background characters that I could play as that would fit into that role. For example, at some point, SNK released a little bit of information on Galford and Earthquake from Samurai Spirits/Shodown, giving them a master by name of Ayame.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12914396392884532425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5257249091847404717.post-44769500276648979922016-01-11T07:26:44.915-08:002016-01-11T07:26:44.915-08:00Hi Tymes, thanks for the comment. I don't get how people are calling it censorship when her costume is way more revealing than it ever was. How is that censorship? Yeah the new developers are really going out of their way to push the sex agenda and the series never really needed it.NoeVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04779247007364271106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5257249091847404717.post-67292063028487395712016-01-10T21:27:03.303-08:002016-01-10T21:27:03.303-08:00Compare Rainbow Mika's SF Alpha 3 character ar...Compare Rainbow Mika's SF Alpha 3 character artwork to her SF5 artwork.
1. Her costume has been made even skimpier and less practical. There would be a greater chance of a wardrobe malfunction... not to mention an uncomfortable wedgie.
2. Her SF Alpha pose has her standing and flexing her bicep. It shows off her costume nicely and conveys her strength and confidence. Her SF4 pose is absurd. Her nearly bare buttocks is the clear focus.
Does R Mika's game-play mitigate her designers' shameless pandering? Perhaps somewhat but I believe that her appearance is linked to her game-play and part of her overall design. Therefore I submit that this unnecessary fan-service weakens an otherwise great character. As you said, her costume is still revealing, you can still see her butt in any other number of moves. If it's such a problem, why not redesign her to a more modest costume, maybe take this as an opportunity to make her an even more effective design than Bengus did? 3D models are easier to change than 2D Sprites. Instead, they just panned up. Strange.

Anyway, I can confirm that gameplay wise the change is not noticeable. I was too busy trying to beat my opponent than to focus where the camera was for a split second.

To give some credit, I think they got everything else about Mika right. Her mic skills, her attitude, her use of a tag partner, and her redesigned moveset (Drivers, Giant Swings, Bulldogs, Gorilla Press Slams, and Stunners, oh my!) make a pro wrestling fan like me smile. If only the designers had the forethought to make the conversation about that than her backside.LaughingDragonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08460567300772769941noreply@blogger.com
